Skill enhancement trainings for teachers and academics of Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University were held on June 13th – 25th within the framework of the project “Modernization of Pedagogical Higher Education by Innovative Teaching Instruments” (MoPED) of the EU program Erasmus + KA2 – Development of Higher Education Capacity, No. 586098-EPP-1-2017-1-UA-EPPKA2-CBHE-JP.
On June, 13th the training “Formative Assessment. Use of electronic educational resources for Formative Assessment” was presented by Nataliia Morze (Vice-Rector on Informational Technologies, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor, Corresponding Member of National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine) and by Mariia Gladun (Senior Lecturer of Department of Computer Science and Mathematics, Researcher of IT in Education Laboratory of Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University).
The aim of the training was to familiarize participants with the concept of “Formative Assessment”, its advantages and disadvantages, to compare it with traditional assessment, to learn about peer assessment and digital tools for its implementation. In the classroom, teachers worked with mindmaps, QR code, Mentimeter and Socrative questionnaires, online boards and tables “What I know, What I want to Know, What I learned”.
49 participants worked in groups, mastered utilization of new digital instruments, got new ideas on the implementation of innovative technologies in learning process of educational institutions, acquired new professional skills and abilities, got positive impressions and exchanged experiences.
On June, 14th the training “Inquiry based learning in Educational Process. Electronic Educational Resources for the Implementation Inquiry based learning in Education” was presented by trainers Nataliia Morze and Mariia Gladun.
The facilitators of the training adapted and presented the materials of the training seminars, which took place within the framework of the MoPED project: familiarization training in Bilbao, Spain, on March 19-23, 2018; training sessions led by the team of researchers from the University of Deusto, Spain, on the basis of the Gregory Skovoroda Pereyaslav-Khmelnytsky State Pedagogical University on March 11-15, 2019.
During the training participants got acquainted with the concept of “inquiry based learning”, learned about stages of research and stages of preparation for the project activities, about the peculiarities of STEM implementation, and went through electronic educational resources for creation of digital research environments.
In particular, the teachers and academics analyzed the capability of the Go-Lab portal and the possibility of creating own inquiry learning environments on the Graasp platform. The main features of the platform were discussed, including the use of embedded applications for virtual and remote experiments, the integration of Graasp with external resources, the role of users and interaction between them, etc.
The participants emphasized the relevance and usefulness of the training, noting that they intend to use the acquired knowledge in their teaching activities.
On June, 24th the training “Storytelling in Educational Process” was presented by Svitlana Vasylenko (Deputy Head on the Content and Research of IT in Education Laboratory of Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University). The facilitator of the training adapted and presented the materials of the familiarization training seminars, which had taken place in Nicosia (Cyprus) on June 3-10, 2018 and in Bilbao, Spain, on March 19-23, 2018.
At the training participants got acquainted with the definition of “storytelling”, analyzed main goals and functions of storytelling, created their own digital histories, learned about the utilization of comics in educational activities and learned how to create them using electronic resources.
The participants responded: “All activities were useful and informative. Innovative methods and technologies for organizing work with students were demonstrated to us; interesting educational resources for developing the skills of the 21st century and modernizing the educational process were shared with us”.
On June, 25th the trainings “Online pedagogy and design structure for effective online learning” and “Cooperation and collaboration” were held by Nataliia Morze and Mariia Gladun.
Teachers and academics of Grinchenko University analyzed courses according to the types of learning activities and created approximate optimal course designs for effective learning. New concepts of raise of students’ motivation for learning, team work organization, self-development and self-study were looked into. During the training the participants mastered their soft skills, took part in the business game “Marshmallow Tower”, discussed own failures examples and demonstrated connection between the failures and the lessons they can teach.
In addition, the notions of “cooperation” and “collaboration” were discussed. The participants learnt how to use online instruments for organization of active learning.
